ECMO:
the Ultimate Weapon
in the Fight Against Death

In 2001, Zhongshan City People's Hospital took the lead in establishing an ECMO treatment center. In 2002, the hospital was the first to implement ECMO technology in Chinese mainland. In 2013, the hospital established the ''One-hour ECMO Treatment Network Within the Pearl River Delta'' while planning a nationwide rescue system.

For patients with poor cardiopulmonary function, ECMO serves as an “artificial heart and lungs,” buying time for the effectiveness of medication and treatment of the primary disease, serving as the “ultimate weapon” for rescuing critically ill patients. In the future, ECMO will be widely used in the treatment of severe diseases that require artificial heart or lung support.
